About the Role
Are you a skilled building professional with a strong understanding of compliance and a customer-focused approach? Join our client, a growing city council in South Island, as a Building Officer. We have opportunities in both Processing and Inspecting, where you’ll play a key role in ensuring building projects align with New Zealand’s highest standards.
In this position, you will work collaboratively within the Building Team to deliver exceptional building consent processing and inspection services, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and providing expert guidance to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and evaluate building consents in accordance with statutory timeframes.
  • Conduct site inspections to assess compliance with the Building Act and Building Code.
  • Provide expert advice on building matters to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update technical knowledge of building regulations and industry standards.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with the Quality Management System.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance processes and service delivery.
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong knowledge of the Building Act, Building Code, and consent processes.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • R1-3 for inspections and C1-2 competency would be advantageous.
  • A customer-focused mindset with the ability to resolve issues constructively.
  • Familiarity with BCA accreditation schemes and digital tools for processing consents.
  • NZ Diploma in Building Surveying (Level 6) or an equivalent qualification as per regulations.
  • A valid Class 1 driver’s license.
